Between the fact that July is Anti-Boredom Month and the kids will be headed back to school within a matter of weeks, chances are, you want to soak up every moment of summer fun that you can. If you live in Traditions of Braselton – or hope to become a new neighbor soon – you already know that there’s a wealth of amenities to tap into within our 1140-acre master-planned community. From days spent poolside to friendly pickleball competitions out on the court, fun is always in high supply here. But if you’re looking for a quick escape before it’s time to brave the stores and check items off the old school supplies list, we’ve got a few you might want to check out – all within a short road trip of our scenic streetscapes…
St. Simons Island, Georgia: Topping Southern Living’s list of The Best Beach Towns in the South 2025 and part of the South’s Best Beach Getaways 2026, this “small town” surrounded by water is brimming with Southern charm and pristine beaches. From seafood to sightseeing, it never disappoints, AND it’s less than six hours from Traditions of Braselton. HOT TIP: Add a stop to Georgia’s largest Buc-cee’s location in Brunswick on your way to the island, and – if BBQ is a favorite cuisine of yours – don’t miss the chance to try Southern Soul Barbeque while you’re there. It was featured on BBQ Pitmasters and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives for very good reason.
Charleston, South Carolina: Do you have any history buffs in the family? If so, Charleston is a great destination brimming with historic locations, as well as excellent shops and dining establishments. It was awarded Conde Nast Traveler’s Best Places to Go in the US in 2026. Best of all, it’s within 5 hours of Traditions of Braselton. HOT TIP: If you feel the need to stick your toes in the sand, pay a visit to Folly Beach. If you’re there around breakfast time, make a pit stop at The Lost Dog Cafe for a great cup of coffee. You can’t go wrong with their Breakfast Burrito OR their Shrimp and Grits.
Chattanooga, Tennessee: Instead of heading south, consider pointing your car northward and making the two-and-a-half-hour drive to the home of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo. According to The New York Times, “Any trip to Chattanooga, Tenn. will include three things: great food, friendly people, and the great outdoors.” You can sleep aboard a restored historic train car, visit the Tennessee Aquarium, explore the famed Rock City and Ruby Falls, and take a sightseeing cruise on the Southern Belle Riverboat. HOT TIP: Plan at least one lunch for picturesque riverfront dining, then walk it off along the Chattanooga Riverwalk.
Greenville, South Carolina: While it doesn’t really seem fair that we’d feature TWO South Carolina cities on our short list of destinations, Greenville feels a world away from Charleston’s historic streets. An excellent fit for any family that loves the outdoors, the Reedy River is at the heart of the action, with Falls Park on the Reedy and the 32-mile Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail offering plenty of options to explore. Named a “Best in the U.S. Travel Destination” by Lonely Planet, it’s only a little over an hour and a half from Traditions. While there, you can also visit the Greenville Zoo, brave the waterslides at Otter Creek Waterpark, and take your pick of restaurants throughout the city. Its dining scene is next level. HOT TIP: Do your homework on their Downtown Dining before you go: https://www.visitgreenvillesc.com/food-drink/restaurants/downtown-dining/.
Lanier Islands Resort, Buford, Georgia: Need to stick a little closer to home? Designated a Best of Georgia Vacation Destination by Georgia Business Journal readers, Lanier Islands Resort offers an awesome staycation option for Traditions of Braselton residents – roughly 45 minutes from your driveway. Margaritaville at Lanier Islands features Fins Up Waterpark, a stretch of white sand beach, and a number of eateries that will enhance your “beach escape.” Accommodation offerings range from an RV Resort with RV campsites, glamping tents, and cabins for rent for those who prefer “roughing it” or Lanier Islands Resort’s Legacy Lodge, Legacy Villas, and LakeHouses at Legacy for a more posh stay. Beat the heat at Game Changer – with your pick of arcade games, duckpin bowling, axe throwing, and virtual sports suites. You can also explore the Islands in a resort cart, try your hand at The Six – a brand-new night-lit Par-3 course, or rent a pontoon boat in search of fun on Lake Lanier’s waters. HOT TIP: You can order food and drinks at the Legacy Lodge saltwater pool while you soak up some rays.
